Ed Adams sent a message to the members of A Toast to President George W. Bush.

--------------------
Subject: The Toast

I must say that I am overwhelmed by the positive response to this event. I sent it out to my posted friends as an expression of thanks to President Bush for his, often unappreciated, service. At the time of this writing there are nearly 460 confirmed responses agreeing to toast the President this evening. In a nation of 300 million, that isn't a lot, but in my corner of the world, where the press would have us to believe that everyone wants the President out of Washington as soon as possible, it is significant to me. I thank you for your positive responses.

This evening I propose a toast to President George W. Bush. In the course of the last 8 years, my taxes are lower than ever and America is secure. Many of can disagree about government fiscal policy and economics. Indeed, our nation - and many nations of the world - endures difficult times this evening. It is easy to press blame for these matters, but history demonstrates that there will always be times of prosperity and times of want. These are business cycles. Government may certainly offer hope in such times, but time is the great healer of all.

Of the thing that none can argue, after September 11, 2001, President Bush committed himself to the security and well being of the United States. Today, Afghanistan and Iraq are emerging democracies in lands which have been governed by ignorance, fear and tyranny. Afghanistan served as the land for those who trained and conspired to murder our fellow citizens and destroy peace. Today, it is place where those who still live of that ilk cower in the mountains.

Seven and half years after 9/11, there has not been a single terrorist attack within the United States. This was not due to a lack of effort by our enemies. Many attacks have been foiled by the diligence of many. The President is certainly not the only one to be grateful to for these efforts. However, he showed unswerving belief in America and to her people. Even when America stopped believing in him, he never stopped believing in America. His commitment did not depend on the approval of European elites or the New York Times.

If I were to criticize this evening, it would be that often he was far too loyal to people, who demonstrated that they did not merit such loyalty. This, however, is a credit to the character of President George W. Bush.

Tonight, we sit in a nation filled with hope for the future. It is filled many challenges. But tonight I raise a glass to man who served his country honorably. To President George W. Bush …. Thank you and God Bless you and may God Bless the United States of America.

Ed Adams
