DeMint: Democrats Drank Kool-Aid on Obamacare

DeMint: Democrats Drank Kool-Aid on Obamacare

By: John Rossomando

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., had some harsh words for Democrats aiming to make President Obama's healthcare program law.

In an interview with Newsmax.TV Monday, the Senate's leading conservative Senator said his Democratic colleagues are not considering their constituent wishes, but are helping President Obama "make history" in putting through a radical government takeover of private healthcare.

DeMint said Congressional Democrats "have drank that Kool-Aid," adding that they are even willing to "walk the plank" to see Obama's plan rammed through Congress. He noted that most members of Congress don't even know what's in the bill, since it is being drafted in "secret."

See Video: Sen. Jim DeMint talks about his defense of conservative candidates - Click Here Now

DeMint also offered sharp criticism for some members of his own party, and is even backing conservative candidates who oppose Republican establishment picks.

The senator tells Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella that supporting these alternative candidates can help transform the Republican Party and bring it in line with where he believes most Americans are on matters of spending, governmental intrusiveness and free-market economics.

"These are Republicans who are willing to stand for those mainstream, common-sense principles that Americans are demanding right now," DeMint said. "I'm not trying to pull the Republican Party to the right; I'm trying to pull the Republican Party to where America really is."

The senator believes Republicans deserve a choice who will stand for conservative principles and not just be someone who the party establishment thinks can win.

DeMint says the GOP has drifted too far to the left in recent years when it has come to spending and the expansion of government, and his goal amounts to reversing that trend and returning to the conservative principles espoused by Ronald Reagan. Returning to basic conservative ideas, he says, will help the Republican Party regain the popular support it lost in the past decade.

"We need to pull the Republican Party back to mainstream America and to what Americans would say is common sense not to spend more than you are bringing in," DeMint said. "That's where we need to be.

"This isn't some far right-wing movement that you see with these Tea Parties, rallies or town halls."

He says those who have made their voices heard at the Tea Party rallies speak for millions of Americans who have grown tired with how business has been conducted in Washington and "how it is mortgaging our future to buy votes today" on healthcare and other issues.

"[Reagan] kept his focus on limited government. He kept his focus on a strong defense and less taxes, so our private economy can work," DeMint said. "The people in power now are advocating exactly the opposite more government spending, more debt, more government control of healthcare, General Motors, insurance, banks, whatever."

The senator says the latter is a recipe for disaster that failed in Russia and China. He also criticizes the $1.1-trillion spending bill that passed last weekend laden with 5,000 earmarks as the latest example of the Democrats' fiscal irresponsibility.

"It still tells you that the people running Washington don't get it," DeMint said. "We are in the middle of a recession of Americans losing their jobs, and they're passing spending bills. These are discretionary, non-mandatory bills that are 15-20 percent above last year in some cases, and we don't need to be doing that at a time when we've got debt that is completely unsustainable."

Democrats, he says, think Americans are "stupid" and will forget about the healthcare fight in next year's midterm elections, but he promises that will not be the case.

DeMint says candidates such as Marc Rubio in Fla., Pat Toomey in Pa., Michael Williams in Texas and Chuck Devore in Calif., have the character and ideas the Republican Party needs to reverse these trends and return the GOP to respectability.

He especially expressed confidence in Toomey, whose showing in the polls forced incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., to bolt from the Republican Party last spring, as someone who stands for the principles of liberty.

Sen. DeMint was questioned by Martella about his fellow South Carolina Senator Linsdey Graham, who has teamed up with Democratic Senator John Kerry to push for an international climate change treaty.

DeMint suggested Graham's rhetoric may tilt to "their side" but said he doubted his Republican colleague would ever voter for climate legislation like the cap-and-trade bill proposed in the House.

Dear Employees:

Subject: Health Care Update

Dear Friends of Prosperity,

I thought you would all like an update on the health debate:

HEALTHCARE

*        Lieberman Rules Out Voting for Health Bill: In a surprise setback for Democratic leaders, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, said on Sunday that he would vote against the health care legislation in its current form… In hopes of placating opponents of abortion, Mr. Reid is also considering an increase in the federal tax credit for adoption of children and a new program to provide services to pregnant high school and college students. (NYT, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.nytimes.com/2009/12/14/health/policy/14health.html?ref=todayspaper

*        Democrats, Lieberman List U.S. Health Bill Demands: Also today, a memo released by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office raised questions about a Democratic proposal to require insurance companies to spend 90 percent of the premiums they receive on health care rather than on administrative or other expenses. The agency said such a requirement may be so intrusive that it might cross a line between private sector programs and what is considered a government program that must be incorporated into the federal budget… The CBO's letter said lowering insurers' required health- care spending level to 85 percent may be enough to avoid crossing the line (Bloomberg, 12/13).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=aH.26srnx9hM

*        Lieberman, Nelson: Public-option Compromise Still Not Good Enough: Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said she would not vote for any bill that doesn't reduce the deficit and bring down healthcare costs. If those two criteria aren't met, "we'll have to go back to the drawing board," she said. (The Hill, 12/13).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;thehill.com/homenews/senate/71967-lieberman-nelson-public-option-compromise-still-cause-for-concern

*        Disputes Threaten '09 Passage of Health Bill: By mid-week, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) must begin the process of ending debate on the bill or risk missing his deadline of final passage by Christmas, pushing the contentious health-care debate into early 2010…Most of the undecided lawmakers have refused to commit until the CBO delivers a cost analysis on the coverage alternatives offered last week… The first test will come Monday, when the Senate resumes consideration of an amendment offered by Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.) to allow cheaper prescription drugs to be imported from Canada and other countries. The idea has broad bipartisan support. But approval of Dorgan's amendment could jeopardize an agreement the White House struck with drug makers this year (Washington Post, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/13/AR2009121303084.html

*        PHRMA Renegotiating Its Deal?: The pharmaceutical industry is negotiating with the White House and lawmakers on a revised health care deal under which the industry would ante up cuts beyond the $80 billion it agreed to this summer, possibly by agreeing to policies that would further shrink the Part D doughnut hole, according to Washington lobbyists…Several lobbyists told Inside Health Policy they've heard that the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America may have already reached a deal with the White House and AARP to close the Senate bill's coverage gap by 75 percent, versus the 50 percent under the current bill. (Inside Health Policy via Politico, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.politico.com

*        High Hurdles Ahead for Health Plan: Most insiders agree that Democrats have until Thursday to work out their differences if they want to pass a bill by Dec. 23. It will take at least five or six days after Democrats move to end debate before they can vote on the bill. Democrats expect to begin the endgame early this week and still sound optimistic that they can get it done.  (Politico, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30554.html

*        Two Senators Doubt Medicare Compromise: Sens. Joe Lieberman (I., Conn.) and Ben Nelson (D., Neb.) on Sunday voiced strong doubts about the Medicare proposal, which would allow individuals as young as 55 to buy into the program. (WSJ, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;online.wsj.com/article/SB126075698805190017.html

*        Medicare Cuts Could Hurt Hospitals, Expert Warns: In a report Friday, Rick Foster, chief actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, questioned the sustainability of many of the proposed cuts… He warned that many institutions might drop Medicare, "possibly jeopardizing access to care for beneficiaries." Moreover, he wrote, simulations by his office suggest that 20 percent of institutional medical providers would become unprofitable within a decade. (Washington Post, 12/12).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/11/AR2009121102792.html

*        Senate Reform Bill to Hike Health Spending, Extend Medicare Trust Fund's Life, CMS Says: Health care reform legislation under consideration by the Senate (H.R. 3590) would increase total national health care spending by $234 billion, or 0.7 percent, over 10 years, over current law due to increased use of health care services by newly covered individuals, according to the chief actuary of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The increase in national health care expenditures also reflects lower payments to health care providers for those newly enrolled in Medicaid and lower payments for Medicare services associated with policy in the bill, CMS said in a Dec. 10 analysis. (BNA, 12/14).

*        Long-Term Care Is Latest Issue in Health Care Debate: Advocates for older Americans and people with disabilities see the program as a long-overdue effort to address needs that will explode as baby boomers age. It is meant for people with severe disabilities who want to live in the community, though the benefits could also be used to help pay for nursing home care or assisted living. But critics say that the program is unsustainable and that it could ultimately create serious fiscal problems for the government. (NYT, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.nytimes.com/2009/12/14/health/policy/14care.html?ref=todayspaper

*        Exclusive: The White House Council of Economic Advisers Chair Christy Romer will hold a conference call today to explain a new report that shows how health insurance reform legislation will lower health care spending in both the public and private sectors, reduce premiums, increase wages and provide substantial benefits to the economy. (Politico, 12/14).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.politico.com

*        A Senator's Moral Dilemma on Health Bill: Casey and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) are negotiating with the White House over language that would satisfy Nelson as well as abortion-rights supporters. One alternative is a proposal from Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.) that would require the health secretary to use private contractors to divide premiums for elective abortions under the public option from other amounts paid to the federal government.  (Washington Post, 12/12).

http://www.facebook.com/l/51e4b;www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/11/AR2009121103455.html

*        MedPAC Suggests Full Hospital Update, Need to Recoup Possible Overpayments: Hospitals could receive the full Medicare marketbasket inpatient and outpatient payment update for fiscal year 2011 under a draft recommendation proposed Dec. 10 by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. MedPAC commissioners also discussed the need to adjust hospital payments to recover overpayments that resulted from coding and documentation changes. (BNA, 12/14).

*        Private Medicare Plans in 2010 Will Be Paid 13 Percent More Than Traditional Medicare: Early data on the 2010 Medicare Advantage program show that MA plans overall will be paid on average 113 percent of traditional Medicare, or 13 percent above fee-for-service levels, analysts for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission said Dec. 11. (BNA, 12/14).

Poem From Iraq

Poem From Iraq

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,

I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.

My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,

My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,

Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,

Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,

Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.

In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,

So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,

But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.

Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,

Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,

And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,

A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty yearsold,

Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.

Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,

Standing watch over me, and my wife, and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,

"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!

Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,

You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,

Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts…

The window that danced with a warm fire's light,

Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right,

I'm out here by choice.  I'm here every night."

"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,

That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,

I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

My Gramps died at Pearl on a day in December,"

Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas Gram' always remembers.

My Dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam,

And now it is my turn and so, here I am…

Iv'e not seen my own son in more than a while,

But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile."

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,

The red, white, and blue… An American flag.

"I can live through the cold, and being alone,

Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,

I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.

I can carry the weight of killing another,

Or lay down my life with my sister and brother…

Who stand at the frin against any and all,

To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,

Your family is waiting, and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least"

"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?

It seems all too little for all that you've done,

For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,

"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.

To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,

To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,

To know you remember we fought and we bled,

Is payment enough… and with that we will trust,

That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Dear Fellow American,

true I wish I could say that President Obama's first year in office made good the vision of "hope" he repeatedly summoned during the 2008 campaign. But while his words back then may have been those of a man of center, his actions since his inauguration have been those of a man of the left - someone who feels estranged from America's greatness and is therefore willing to subject our country to extreme measures to change its basic character.

Obama and his agendas are driven by leftwing ideology. No wonder so many of us feel like strangers in our own country today.

But all is not lost. There is hope in America today, although it is not the sham hope Barack Obama promised during his campaign. People are recognizing that our country is in deep peril. They have seen what lays behind the seemingly piecemeal efforts to take over the car makers, the banks and the health care system: creating a new America that will bear little resemblance to the country in which they grew up. Their hope that the "change" the President promised can be reversed is apparent in the tea parties, the demonstrations in Washington, and in the recent election.

I'm proud of the people who are starting to just say no to the President, and I'm proud that the David Horowitz Freedom Center is leading the charge.

While I feel that our work is cut out for us in combating Obama and Obamaism, I feel that the Freedom Center was cut out exactly for this work. It is precisely because you know who we are and what we have done to defend our country and its traditions that I now ask you to make an end of the year contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more to the Freedom Center.

I have said it many times, the Freedom Center is not just another think tank; it is a battle tank and it has taken its campaign against the enemies of freedom onto hundreds of our nation's campuses.

The Freedom Center needs to do more because the threat we now face from Washington is unlike anything we have faced before. Our economic institutions and social traditions are under assault. Our foreign policy is undergoing a radical revision as the Obama administration curries favor with the tyrant mullahs of Teheran at the same time that it punishes Israel, the one democratic oasis in a vast desert of authoritarianism and repression in the Middle East.

I don't have to tell you that the Freedom Center has been in the forefront of the fight against the left for the last 20 years. Now that it is Paul Revere time in America, we will be even more aggressive in telling it like it is, more active in warning our countrymen what they face, more determined in stopping the left's advance.

But we can only do this with your help. We need you to be with us more than ever before because the threat to our values and our future is unlike anything we've ever faced. As we go to war with the leftists in the Obama administration, I ask you to enlist to serve with us. We will fight the battles, but we need you to pass the ammunition.

Please make a year-end tax deductible contribution to the Freedom Center that will allow us to complete the mission we have undertaken. You will immediately see the results of your contribution as we uncover the truth behind the Obama agenda and hold this administration responsible for killing the American Dream we still hope to reclaim and bequeath to our children and grandchildren.

America stands at the precipice. Let's act together to save our country, our liberty and our future by bringing it back from the brink.

Sincerely,

David Horowitz
President & Founder

P.S. We now face from Washington is unlike anything we have faced before. Will you help the Freedom Center continue our fight against the Left by making a generous year-end, tax deductible contribution before December 31st? Thank you.

Don't let Democrats cut Medicare
benefits and raise your taxes

Support the Amendment Today

Sign Today
My Friend,

Last night, I introduced the first Republican amendment to the Democrats' massive health care bill aimed at overhauling how Americans receive health care. My amendment will send the bill back to the Finance Committee to force Democrats to pay for the bill without cutting Medicare coverage for our seniors.

I urge you to immediately send a message to your Senator by adding your name as a supporter to this amendment so that we can prevent Medicare cuts and government rationing of health care. The Democrats' bill as it is written would gut Medicare as we know it, and that's just not right.

The Democrats call this bill "deficit-neutral," but they are using Bernie Madoff, Enron-style accounting to pay for their takeover of health care. Buried in this 2,000-page legislative monstrosity is a half-a- trillion dollars in "unspecified" cuts to Medicare that will directly affect our seniors and result in a tax increase for hard-working Americans.

My friend, Congressional Democrats are spending at an unprecedented rate. Our country now has the highest deficit in history and the Democrats want to pass an additional $2.5 trillion in spending for their government-run health care plan. If we do not continue to fight, this bill will pass and put much of the cost of "health care reform" on the backs of our senior citizens.

Your involvement in this fight is urgently needed. Please let your Senator know you support my amendment by following this link right away.

While President Obama has held hundreds of meetings behind closed doors with health care lobbyists and special interests, he has not included one Republican in these meetings that have resulted in a bill that will destroy the quality and availability of our health care system.

The more we read what this legislation will do, the more outraged we become. Democrats are counting on Americans to go unaware of the details of this legislation, but they cannot ignore the voices of millions of Americans across the country opposed to their flawed legislation.

Today, I'm asking for your help. Will you support my amendment today by following this link and adding your name as an online "co-sponsor?" And after adding your name, I ask that you make a contribution to my reelection effort, so that I can continue fighting for real health care reform.

My friend, our fight is long from over -- in fact its just beginning. We must continue to make our voices heard. We cannot afford a multi- trillion dollar price tag to implement a government program that will destroy the free marketplace and remove the ability of millions of Americans to choose their own health care provider and insurer. The men and women who have attended the town halls and signed petitions want real reform; not just another government take-over of health care.

Please join the fight against the Democrats' health care bill by following this link to support the Republicans' first amendment to this bill preventing cuts to Medicare.

Thank you,

John McCain

P.S. Don't allow the Democrats to pay for their government takeover of health care with cuts to Medicare for our seniors and tax increases on hard-working Americans. Please send a message to your Senator today by following this link to add your name to the list of supporters for my health care bill amendment. Thank you.

Wow!  Read this one.  It is really good.  And this gentleman says it just like it is.

WW II Battleship sailor tells Obama to shape up or ship out !

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii

for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes

all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body,

he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now.

He dictated this letter  to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year.  People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate.  Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can't figure out what country you are the president of.

You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

             " We're no longer a Christian nation"

" America is arrogant" - (Your wife even

announced to the world,"America is mean-

spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching

that nonsense to 23 generations of our

war dead buried all over the globe who

died for no other reason than to free a

whole lot of strangers from tyranny and

                 hopelessness.)

I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you.  To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals."

Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British?  Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?  I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.

I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination.  You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape up and start acting like an American.  If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue.  You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight?  You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing.  I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son.  Do your job.  When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him.  But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out.  The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.

You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy.  That's not our greatest threat.  Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.

And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

Sincerely,

Harold B. Estes

Obama Lies Again - Supports Lautenberg Gun Ban

White House Gun Agenda Puts You On The Terror Watch List

We warned America that Obama's 'support' for the Second Amendment was empty rhetoric. Now Holder's disclosure has confirmed it. Obama was lying, and now gun rights may be dying.

Obama said "I'm not going to take your guns away" and "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear...I think people can take me at my word."

Right now, I wouldn't take Obama's word if he said it rains a lot in Seattle.

Obama sent Holder to detail his support for a national gun owner registration scheme and authorizing the government to ban firearm possession for any person by merely adding that person's name to the terror watch list.

Apparently, law-abiding gun owners have nothing to fear unless they own sport-utility rifles, semiautomatic shotguns, handguns and any other firearm that Obama and his anti-gun attorney general don't like.

Attorney General Holder aggressively detailed the Obama anti-gun agenda in

Holder's public statements before the Senate Judiciary Committee:
  • Holder wants national, permanent gun registration system.

  • Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the
Federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who possess them.

The latest Rasmussen poll shows waning support for stricter gun laws.

Among Americans polled, 75% said the Constitution guaranteed the right to own a gun. The percentage of "yes" answers was higher among Republicans (92%) and lower among Democrats (64%). Among others, 71% answered yes. And, 57% of those polled cited fear of increased government restrictions as the reason for a spike in gun sales.

Obama-Holder Join Gun Hater Lautenberg giving "Extraordinary Powers" To the U.S. Attorney General To Limit Gun Sales.

Obama and the White House have now publicly joined Lautenberg as he seeks to ban guns from 1,000,000 US citizens on a secret FBI terrorist watch list. Obama has

Lautenberg' bill S.1317 would give the Attorney General Holder the discretion to block gun sales to people on terror watch lists. We must defeat this bill from giving extraordinary powers to limit gun sales to the Attorney General.

Lautenberg To Reveal Names on Secret List

The names of the people on the watch list are secret, and Lautenberg said he was frustrated by the F.B.I.'s refusal to disclose to investigators details and specific cases of gun purchases beyond the aggregate data.

Gun hater Lautenberg requested the gun grab study from the Government Accountability Office. He is using statistics, compiled in the report that is scheduled for public release next week to invade US citizen's privacy and put more restrictions on the Second Amendment.

Lautenberg said he wanted a better understanding of who is being allowed to buy guns.

How you ask? Trial by innuendo and misinformation that has put 1,000,000 Americans and maybe even you on a terrorist watch list without your knowledge by saying: people placed on this government's terrorist watch list can be stopped from getting on a plane or getting a visa, and will also be stopped from buying a gun.

Lautenberg wants gun purchases stopped for just being on the list. Current law states federal officials must find some other disqualification of a would-be gun buyer, like being a felon, an illegal alien or a drug addict.

The government's consolidated watch list, used to identify people suspected of links to terrorists, has grown to more than one million names since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. It also has drawn widespread criticism over the prevalence of mistaken identities and unclear links to terrorism.

Obama - Holder - Lautenberg Must be Stopped

Lautenberg and the Gun Grabbers in the Senate are now tying to use the GAO to justify putting Americans on a secret gun ban list.

Obama-Holder - LAUTENBERG'S MOTIVES

Motives for his latest gun ban to are twofold:
  • First, he is taking small steps to enact gun control legislation this is just one step.

  • Second, eradicate the gun culture altogether.
All that seems to be on the minds of the Anti-Gun Senators and at the offices of gun control extremists is figuring out how to invade your privacy to erode and eventually destroy the right, and the means, of self-defense.

We must Stop the Anti-Gun Coalition and get ready for the biggest gun control fight of the year from coast to coast. We can not do that without your support.

Stand up against this attack! Stand up for the right to not only defend yourself, but to defend your family, your children, your friends, and your classmates!

Endoresment of Proft for Illinois Gov.

Dan Proft for Governor

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2009

Honest Andy

Dear Conservatives, Republicans and Independents Looking for Reform,

One of the value propositions of our campaign is to peel back the curtain and show folks who know they have been gamed by a system they finance just how the scams work—and who is running them, be they Republicans or Democrats. It is part of the knowledge I have acquired after 15 years working in Illinois politics and government. And I chose to run for governor because I knew, absent my candidacy, the same Chicago money men would attempt to put up another establishment cipher.

Enter Andy McKenna.

If incantations of poll-tested buzzwords is what you're in the market for then, friends, look no further than Andy McKenna.

If you are ready to turn the page and usher in a new generation of leadership for our party, please consider joining our campaign today.

McKenna is the former Illinois Republican Party Chairman who despite having the top party post in the state for the past five years has cast himself as the, ahem, fresh-faced "outsider" ready to shake up Springfield. How's he going to do that? Why with the support of Springfield insiders like longtime House Minority Leader Tom Cross, who endorsed McKenna's candidacy.

Enough politics. Are you ready for Andy McKenna on policy?

When asked on the Roe Conn Show (WLS-AM 890) for a specific spending cut he would make, McKenna offered the $2.5 million budgeted for the Lieutenant Governor's office this fiscal year because we don't currently have a Lt. Gov. $2.5 million. We have a budget deficit north of $10 billion. What else you got, Andy?

When asked on the Don Wade & Roma Morning Show (WLS-AM 890) what he would do about the state's moratorium on the death penalty, McKenna decisively offered that he would "review it" and then perhaps think about doing something one way or the other. Take a listen.

When asked about K-12 reform at the gubernatorial debate sponsored by the Illinois GOP earlier this month, McKenna confidently suggested that we should do "whatever it takes" to improve education in Illinois. No word yet on what specifically that "whatever" may include.

To be fair, McKenna is hardly the only candidate running a policy-free campaign. There are others who similarly offer strings of words that when combined have no substantive meaning.

But in his recent barrage of TV and radio ads, McKenna is decidedly out-slithering the field by declaring that he is, "…the one honest, outsider businessman…"

First, the passive aggressive implication that Honest Andy makes is that others in the field are not honest. Every other candidate in this race is a businessman in their chosen field. While I disagree with them on certain policies or certain judgment calls, I have found my opponents, perhaps now with the exception of Honest Andy, to be honest. If Honest Andy knows otherwise, he should come right out and say it rather than engaging in gutless innuendo.

Second, according to several of my opponents, it was Honest Andy who whistled certain gubernatorial candidates into his office while he was State Party Chairman and had them lay out their campaign plans even as he was apparently plotting his own campaign for Governor, something he did not disclose. If that is not dishonest it is at minimum disingenuous.

Third, the very commercial in which Honest Andy touts his honesty has been called "misleading" by the Chicago Tribune for wrongly ascribing words to the newspaper about Gov. Quinn that the Tribune never printed.

The great irony is that Honest Andy, like the kid on the playground who nicknames himself, is none of the things he professes to be.

There will be some who say this is "negative" campaigning. But I am no more going to abide Honest Andy's extreme political makeover which threatens to debilitate our party than I am the scams run by Chicago Democrats whose policy choices have destroyed our state.

Sincerely,

proft_signature.jpg
